About the work

"Mount Kunya, Republic of Khakassia” is a landscape that reflects the spirit of Khakassia and its cultural heritage. The painting depicts Mount Kuni, a sacred site for the indigenous people of the republic, revered within the practice of shamanism. The mountain is located at the foot of the Yenisei Reservoir, known in Siberia as the “Yenisei Sea.” The scene represents the traditional view of the region: steppes covered with feather grass, sun-scorched dry grasses, and mountains with sparse rock formations. On these rocks, ancient runic inscriptions left by the ancestors of the Kyrgyz, who inhabited the area thousands of years ago, can still be found. The Okunev culture, which existed from the late 3rd to the early 2nd millennium BCE, left significant archaeological traces here. The clear, bright sky typical of southern Siberia and the warmth of the steppe valleys create a distinctive atmosphere — calm, sunny, and filled with memories of the native landscape. The composition conveys the harmony and grandeur of the local terrain, evoking a sense of time and space that preserves the region’s pristine beauty
