About the work

Lusine is a portrait born at the crossroads of two cities and two encounters. The artist first met her in Yerevan during a master class held for the opening of a major outsourcing studio; some time later fate brought them together again in St. Petersburg, where, in the quiet of his studio, the image found its final form. Lusine’s Eastern beauty became a point of contact with something fragile and alive. Her face carries youth, anticipation, the promise of life unfolding. The artist fixes on her eyes, where an unguarded sincerity speaks more clearly than words. The delicate oval of her face enters a taut dialogue with dark, slightly unruly hair; that interplay gives the image its pulse and makes the portrait breathe. A shirt slipping lightly off her shoulder, a slender silhouette, a gentle turn of the head—everything appears as if caught by a fleeting, accidental glance. The viewer feels like a witness to a private instant, when an unknown woman, unaware of being observed, reveals her true self for a heartbeat. This painting is a keepsake of a brief, vivid encounter—an image of a young woman that lingers with the artist like the faint trace of touching something genuine.
