About the work

"Monastery in the Huangshan Mountains, Gansu Province” is a landscape that conveys the grandeur and spiritual strength of a high-mountain monastery, set amidst the rugged beauty of the Chinese mountains. The monastery rises above the clouds, at an altitude where the air is thin and breathing becomes difficult, creating a sense of detachment from worldly concerns and closeness to the divine. The architecture and location of the monastery evoke the power and resilience of Russian fortresses, such as the Solovetsky Monastery or Sergiev Posad, where human strength is revealed through hardships and trials. Here, the harshness of nature and the asceticism of the inhabitants merge into a harmonious unity: stone walls, terraces, and roofs, seemingly carved from the mountain itself, reflect the discipline and inner stability of the monks devoted to spiritual practice. The composition is built on the contrast of heights and scales: massive mountains rise into the clouds, emphasizing both the fragility of human life and the strength of spirit capable of withstanding the trials of nature. Light and shadow create an atmosphere of mystical solitude, where the grandeur of nature and the internal order of the monastery merge into a single whole. The work conveys the feeling of the Celestial Empire: a place where people live almost at cloud level, seemingly closer to the heavens, where the steadfastness and inner strength of the monastery’s inhabitants resonate with the height of the surrounding mountains and the unwavering silence of nature.
